Application:
The Tempress opto-angular position transmitter type OPF provides a new and better method of measuring rotational movements than offered by conventional potentiometers. The weak points of conventional potentiometers are eliminated with the OPF transmitter, that is, problems like wear, noise, hysteresis and difficulty in obtaining a high repeatability are effectively avoided. This means that the OPF angular position transmitter can be used in situations where conventional technology previously prevented the use of an analogues signal for measuring control.
The wellknown potentiometer:
A conventional potentiometer consists of a resistor which may be made of a carbon composite, a thin metal layer, a coiled resistance wire or similar components. The electric pick-up takes place via a spring loaded wiper which is moved along the resistor. Because of the resulting friction, a certain torque is needed to move the wiper. And this friction is the cause of the weaknesses of conventional potentiometers.
